Preparation
Before shotcreting, the surface to be covered with concrete is prepared. This may involve cleaning, roughening, and sometimes applying a bonding agent to ensure proper adhesion of the shotcrete.
Mixing
The shotcrete company will prepare the concrete mix, which usually consists of cement, aggregates (such as sand and gravel), water, and sometimes additives or admixtures to enhance certain properties like workability or strength.
Application
The shotcrete is pneumatically projected onto the prepared surface using specialized equipment. There are two main methods for shotcrete application: dry-mix and wet-mix.
- Dry-Mix: In this method, the dry ingredients are fed into the shotcrete machine, and water is added at the nozzle just before spraying onto the surface.
- Wet-Mix: Here, all the ingredients, including water, are pre-mixed before being fed into the shotcrete machine and then sprayed onto the surface.
